This is part two of a two part interview with Jim Douglass. Recently, Mark spent time in Birmingham Alabama, where he sat down with Jim, an activist, and noted author on nonviolence and Christian theology.

He and his wife, Shelley Douglass, founded the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action in Poulsbo, Washington, and Mary’s House, a Catholic Worker house in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1997 the Douglasses received the Pacem in Terris Award.

Douglass’ latest book, JFK and the Unspeakable, explores how JFK was martyred as a peacemaker by forces within the Government. He is also the author of such books as The Non-Violent Cross and The Non-Violent Coming of God.

how much does acknowledging jesus' lordship/divinity have to do with following jesus' way? [i ask this as someone also inspired by gandhi's life]

following the way of jesus is not about succeeding. andy ab mentioned this in the last iconocast, christians do not put their [ultimate] hope in themselves, or in the body of christ/the 'church' but in christ. it is for this reason that mother theresa (or some unknowns) small acts of great love to people dying – to people who will not improve, is just as christ like as subversive acts of disobedience like collecting salt by gandhi.

the measure of our faith is how we act, not what we achieve.

Yo mark, great podcast. You spent some time talking about Jim's comment on Jesus being the greatest disciple of Jesus. But what he actually said was that he was the greatest example of a disciple of Jesus who is not a Christian. Just a clarification. '
