In reaction to Obama’s comments that the white police officer who had arrested Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. had acted “stupidly,” Glenn Beck stated that Obama has a “deep-seated hatred for white culture“–an accusation that (unsurprisingly) went unchallenged and unexamined by his comrades at FOX “News.”
Today a video came out in which Katie Couric asked Beck to define “white culture” during an interview. Not only was he unable explain his own comments, he evaded the question, rambled unintelligibly, accused Couric of trying to trap him and even managed to sneak in a plug for his Web site. In short, Beck demonstrated exactly why he can’t be trusted to teach anyone how to tie her shoelaces, much less be a commentator on politics, news or anything that requires critical analysis and thinking skills (such as the topic of race).
Beck’s excuse for perpetuating the garbage he passes of as “news” is that he is a libertarian therefore he questions government. After this public failure to defend his own statements or define his own own words, perhaps more people will start questioning the questioner and seeing Beck for what he really is: a purveyor of useless chatter.
